Modern Keepsakes

The Clark & Taft story begins with a simple belief that bags should be made in the USA, made by hand, and made to last. I've always been in love with waxed canvas and leather bags. But I was tired of their uninspired conventional designs, their low-quality materials or poor construction.

Clark & Taft was born when I found myself in search of the perfect anniversary gift for my partner – a monogrammed dopp kit. I was seeking something that was rugged and durable while also modern, functional and stylish with the versatility to keep up with his everyday life. However, I discovered most dopp kits didn’t fully consider all of these needs so I decided to take matters into my own hands.

How CLARK & TAFT came about

OLD-WORLD CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS MODERN AESTHETICS

After spending months researching, prototyping and testing I concluded that it was possible to make modest, beautiful bags without compromising superb American craftsmanship and high-quality American-manufactured raw materials. I partnered with two household names symbolic for their timeless, durable materials – Fairfield Textiles and Horween Leather Company - to create a modern luggage and bag collection that honors old-world craftsmanship but caters to the demands of today's active and adventurous lifestyle.

I want to create bags that people cherish so much they want to pass them down to the next generation. Therefore, I included personalization offerings such as embossed monograms and anniversary dates to add sentimental value, while turning the bags into memorable gifts suitable for any occasion.

SILVIA NIKOLOV - CEO OF CLARK & TAFT

Silvia Nikolov uses traditional materials and old-school craftsmanship to design bags for the modern demands.

Growing up in Bulgaria, a communist republic at the time, taught me how to be imaginative and creative with very limited resources. After learning essential designing and crafting skills from my grandmother, I moved to the United States in 2004. I made Austin my home in 2012 and after my grandmother's passing, I decided to pay tribute to her by getting a sewing machine and starting a business. The first product I made is now my brand's signature item – the NO. 345 Dopp Kit.
